Television Star Has Mississippi RootsTelevision personality Robin Roberts claimed that her parents were the real celebrities at the General Assembly breakfast on Monday, June 17. Lucimarian and Col. Larry Roberts sat at a front table, beaming with pride. Cliff Kirkpatrick, in his introduction of Robin, also gave credit to these two Presbyterian elders from Biloxi, who have served on “just about every committee in the church at every level.” Proof of their success as role models was made clear as Robin spoke. Tracing her journey from being a high school basketball player to her present high visibility position with ABC television, Robin illustrated every step with stories of being in a Presbyterian church and a Presbyterian family. She mentioned in particular the influence of John Dudley at Westminster in Hattiesburg when she was on a radio show there. Questions from the audience, read from cards by Kirkpatrick (in photo) were answered with good humor by Robin to the delight of her enthusiastic audience.
