Presbyterian Women in the
Synod Meet and Make Plans

PWS Moderator
The Coordinating Team of Presbyterian Women in
the Synod of Living Waters met at Scarritt Bennett Center in Nashville,
June 3-4. The group was led through its planning for the next program
year as well as celebrating the accomplishments of the past year.
Plans were announced for the next Synod Gathering,
to be June 11-13, 2004, in Tupelo, Mississippi. The event will be held
at First Presbyterian Church. Barbara Woody, of Gallatin, Tennessee,
is the director of the 2004 event and she met with the Coordinating
Team . Betty Bierbaum, Synod PW Enabler Coordinator, also met with the
team to work on plans for the Synod PW Enabler Training scheduled for
June 9-ll, 2004.
The women heard a presentation concerning the PW
sponsored Anti-Racism training from Sarah Ford, PW Moderator in North
Alabama Presbytery, and Claudia Torrey from Middle Tennessee Presbytery,
who were part of the training along with three others from the Synod.
The partnership of the Synod with the Rev. Andrea
Jeans, who will be a part of the PW Global Exchange to Africa, was noted.
Bettie J. Durrah, Associate for Women’s Ministries,
installed new leaders, to include the following: Laura Holt, Western
Kentucky, Coordinator of Mission Opportunities; Bligh Jones, South Alabama,
Synod Representative to Churchwide Coordinating Team; Juanita Callahan,
Transylvania, Moderator of the Search Committee; Members of the Search
Committee are Bettye Dixie, North Alabama; Phyllis Hicks, St. Andrew;
and Mary Beth Malone, Holston. New PWP Moderators are Carolyn Neighbors,
East Tennesse; Wanda Morgan, Holston; Nancy Bryson, St. Andrew; Mary
Weber, Transylvania; and Bell Muth, Western Kentucky.
All PWP Moderators within the Synod were at the
meeting. The next meeting of the Synod Coordinating Team will be June
2-3, 2003.
