SMITHS GROVE TO HOST SYNOD JANUARY 27-28
Beginning with registration at 11:00 on Monday, January 27, commissioners and visitors from all 12 presbyteries and four states in the Synod will gather. Opening worship and communion led by Moderator Kenneth Dick is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. The first business session, which will be interspersed with lively reports from ministries funded by the Synod, begins at 2:15. “We want commissioners to know what’s being done with Synod’s money,” said Synod Executive David Snellgrove. He added that the stories about ministries in the Synod are well worth sharing. Dinner will be hosted by the church at 5:30 p.m., followed by a speaker from General Assembly, Gradye Parsons, Director of Strategic Operations. The committees of the Synod will meet and report on Tuesday morning. New officers for the Synod will be elected at this meeting. Nolan Waller is Moderator- Elect and Don Padget will be nominated for Vice-Moderator. Plans for the Synod meeting were set by Synod’s executive committee at a meeting in Franklin, December 9-10, 2002. The executive committee report, to be given by committee chair Mamie Jones, will include a proposed budget for 2003 and new Bylaws will be presented for Synod approval.
