Special people are a blessing for water project

To make the best use of the time and talents of the many volunteers who work faithfully with Living Waters for the World, Synod committee chair Martha Haynes has announced that another half-time staff person has been called. Steve Young will work as administrator from the Synod office in Franklin, Tennessee. He will also be responsible for seeing that contributions made by the generous financial supporters of the mission project are used in the best possible manner. With half-time coordinator Wil Howie, a project founder, Steve Young will complete the staff team that promises to keep clean water flowing in the areas of greatest need.

With the installation of the 12th water system in Belize in February 2003, Living Waters for the World fully integrated its new health education curriculum for the first time. The committee is especially grateful to Maria Medina, Volunteer in Mission with Puentes de Cristo, in Reynosa, Mexico, who did much of the early work on which the curriculum is based and helped to field test it in November at the installation at Los Cumbres.

The Synod’s LWW committee has sponsored training schools recently in Danville, KY and Oxford, MS for those who want to learn how to volunteer with the project.

The first edition of a newsletter edited by veteran publisher and committee member Bill Williams has been emailed and snail mailed to everyone on the mailing list. To be added to the list, contact Bill Williams, billwill@aeneas.net.

Works now in progress include installation number 13 scheduled for June 13-20 in Ciudad de Carmen, Mexico in partnership with the Presbyterian Church in Danville, KY. Funds are being raised for multiplecistern construction by Mississippi Presbytery in a semi-arid region of Brazil. Other projects are planned in the near future in Guatemala, Haiti, Mexico and Belize.

Presbyterians are being urged to help organize a project with their church, go on an installation trip, spread the good news to those around you. Volunteer time and talent can make a difference. Send an email message to info@livingwatersfortheworld.org. Or call Steve Young at the Synod office, 615/261-4008.
