Synod Going To Oxford For Annual Meeting

On January 26 and 27, 2004, commissioners and visitors to the 22nd Stated Meeting of the Synod of Living Waters will gather at historic First Presbyterian Church in Oxford, Mississippi, and at the Triplett Alumni Center Hotel on the Ole Miss Campus.

Elder Nolan Waller, Synod Moderator, extended the invitation to the Synod to meet at his home church. Worship will be led by the Rev. Ned Beckes, interim pastor at First Presbyterian Church.

The church was built in 1837. The educational building was completed in time for its dedication. on the occasion of the celebration of the 125th anniversary of the church on July 15, 1962.

Surrounded by interesting historic sites in Oxford, commissioners will be able to walk from the church around the Square in this unique town named after Oxford in England.

Other sites to be visited include William Faulkner’s home, Rowan Oak, and the Center for the Study of Southern Culture on the Ole Miss campus.

The Rev. Donald Padget, commissioner from Middle Tennessee Prebytery, will be nominated for Synod Moderator in 2004 and Mrs. Ruth Collins, elder from South Alabama Presbytery, will be nominated for Vice Moderator.

Commissioners will hear reports from Synod’s Executive Committee, Nominating Committee,Presbytery Partnership Committee, Communications Committee and Living Waters for the World Committee. A budget for 2004 will be presented for adoption. There will be displays from Presbyterian colleges and seminaries and other church related institutions located within the Synod.

Registration will begin at 11:00 on Monday, January 26. Opening worship begins at 1:00 p.m. The meeting is scheduled for adjournment at 11:30 on Tuesday, January 27.
