First Call Seminar Meets Need
The unique challenges faced by new pastors were addressed at the first in a series of seminars to be held in the Synod of Living Waters for first clergy pastors. Twenty-four participants from ten presbyteries came to Nashville on January 28-February 2, 2004. J. Herbert Nelson, founding pastor of Liberation Community Church in Memphis, (at right in classroom photo) was a seminar leader. Other leaders were Terry Newland, Sheppards and Lapsley Presbytery executive; David Sawyer, Director of Graduate Studies and Continuing and Lay Education at Louisville Seminary; and Deborah Fortel, interim pastor at Maxwell Street Presbyterian Church in Lexington, KY. The next seminar in this series is planned for February 2-8, 2005. |
