David Snellgrove Retiring This Month

David Snellgrove was active throughout his career as a Presbyterian minister in the life of the General Assembly and the Synod as well as St. Andrew Presbytery, which he served as executive. He intends to continue service to the church after retirement, as a volunteer with the Synod's Living Waters for the World project. He said he considers the growth and expansion of this project to be the most significant thing that happened during his tenure as executive.

Another significant aspect of his career with the Synod is the successful development of the partnership concept as it applies to mission and ministry among the twelve presbyteries in the Synod of Living Waters.

David and his wife, Marty, will continue to live in Batesville, Mississippi. David expects to spend a lot of time transporting his grandson, a star athlete, to football, basketball and baseball games, in addition to playing a little golf.

At the first Synod meeting for the new executive in November of 1999, Snellgrove listed the things he planned to do and the things he hoped the Synod would do. Reg Parsons is in photo background.

In October of 1990, Snellgrove was welcomed as the new Moderator of the Synod of Living Waters by outgoing Moderator Jim Chatham.

Sharing a laugh with Terry Newland in 1999, Snellgrove didn't have any idea that he was talking to the man who could succeed him as Synod executive.

With the late Al Freundt taking notes as Synod Stated Clerk, Snellgrove responded to questions from commissioners at the November 1999 Synod meeting.

Before becoming Synod executive, Snellgrove served on the General Assembly's Permanent Judicial Commission at the same time that the late Dick Baldwin was on the Assembly's Advisory Committee on the Constitution. The two were interviewed together in 1997 in Dick's office in Memphis.
