Disaster Preparedness Seminar
Set For Spring Hill Pres., Mobile
Church leaders will have the opportunity to learn
how to deal with a variety of devastating disasters at a Disaster Preparedness
and Response Seminar and Workshop held at Spring Hill Presbyterian Church
in Mobile, Alabama, May 16.
The seminar, offered by Presbyterian Disaster Assistance
(PDA), is an ecumenical curriculum designed to help church leaders respond
to hurricanes, fires, floods and other disasters in their community with
compassion and generosity. It will offer such practical advice as how
congregations can form partnerships with other churches to serve as shelters
for displaced residents in the wake of disasters. Seminar participants
will also learn how to provide spiritual care to victims, meet the needs
of children and the elderly and manage donations and volunteers.
Church leaders will be given the opportunity to design
a disaster response plan tailored to their individual church and community.
Participants will each receive a five-chapter notebook for planning practical
disaster responses.
The seminar/workshop is open all churches that wish
to participate. A registration fee of $5.00 to cover the expense of light
refreshments must be received by PDA by May 2. Churches are encouraged
to send a team of representatives.
The seminar portion of the program will be held from
2-6 pm. An optional extended planning workshop will be conducted from
7-9 pm.
