The 2006 Theologian in Residence Series, sponsored by Tusculum College and Holston Presbytery, will be held on February 7,14,21 and 28 2006 on the campus of Tusculum, College in Greeveville, TN. Dr. David Hendrickson will be the guest theologian for the series. His topic will be Issues Surrounding Worship and Music. Each session begins at 10 a.m. with lunch served at 12:15.

Tusculum College has received a gift of $100,000 from the Katherine Collins Roddy and J.P. Roddy, Sr. Foundation to establish an endowed scholarship fund in their name. Scholarship preference will be given to able and deserving students who live in East Tennessee. The Roddy Foundation’s declared purpose is to build stronger regional communities by focusing on strengthening families, or on programs or systems that strengthen families in East Tennessee.

In addition to financial aid for students who demonstrate need, Louisville Seminary is offering extensive financial assistance through scholarships for excellence in academic performance and/or leadership experience, with a commitment to seeking qualified racial/ethnic applicants. In 2005-2006, more than 82 percent of students will receive assistance from Seminary funds. Maryville College students, faculty and staff members were out in Blount County on October 22, volunteering at various places and with various causes during the annual “Make a Difference” Day.

“I think it is important for our students to feel a sense of community not only on campus but in our surrounding areas”, said Carly Wilkinson, the College’s intern for service and mission.

A filmmaker who has documented the 2002 Hindu- Muslim riots in India will screen his film, “Final Solution”, at 7 p.m. on November 8 in Lawson Auditorium of Maryville College’s Fayerweather Hall. Rakesh Sharma will present his film and answer questions as part of the annual Jackson Lecture Series. The event is free and open to the public.

A Bonhoeffer Birthday Celebration is scheduled at Columbia Seminary on Saturday, February 4, 2006, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of German Lutheran theologian and martyr Dietrick Bonhoeffer. Admission is free, but advance registration is required. Watch for details on the CTS website and in the winter issue of their newsletter.
