Synod Annual Meeting is January 30-31Commissioners and visitors to the 24th Stated Meeting of the Synod of Living Waters will gather on January 30-31 at Grace Presbyterian Church in Trussville, Alabama, near Birmingham. The opening worship service will be led by the Rev. Chris Jones, senior pastor of Grace Church. The Synod will elect a new moderator, the Rev. Thomas Pickering, pastor of Cordova Presbyterian Church in the Presbytery of the Mid- South. Current Moderator Ruth Collins, elder from South Alabama Presbytery, will become moderator of the Synod Executive Committee. The Synod will be saying farewell to Jane Hines, Director of Communications, who is retiring March 1; and will meet the interim editor of Presbyterian Voice. Again this year, the Synod will be welcoming a delegation from the Synod of the Peninsula, our partner in the Yucatan. A proposed budget and other recommendations for 2006, from the Synod Executive Committee, will be presented for a vote by commissioners. The Synod will hear reports from the Presbytery Partnership Committee, the Communications Committee, and the Living Waters for the World Committee. They will hear a report from the Nominating Committee and will elect officers for 2006. There will be displays from Presbyterian colleges and seminaries and other church related institutions located within the Synod. Registration will begin at Grace Church at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 30. Opening worship begins at 1:00 p.m. The meeting is scheduled to adjourn at 11:30 on Tuesday, January 31.
