Connors Receives Read Award

Andrew Foster Connors has been awarded the prestigious David H.C. Read Preacher/Scholar Award for 2001. The $10,000 award is given by Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church, New York, and recognizes and encourages excellence among graduating seminary students who show promise of special distinction. Andrew Foster Connors, who received the Master of Divinity degree from Columbia on May 19, was nominated by Columbia professors Anna Carter Florence, preaching and worship, and Christine Roy Yoder, Old Testament.

The award, named after Read, pastor of the Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church for 33 years, is intended for preacher/scholars who are committed to the parish pulpit.

As the award recipient, he will preach from the pulpit of Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church next fall. Following graduation from Columbia, he will be an associate pastor at Idlewild Presbyterian Church in Memphis, Tennessee.
