College and Seminary News

Rhodes College

Upcoming art events include:

  • An exhibition by assistant professor of art Erin Harmon, February 24 - March 25 at Clough- Hanson Gallery at Rhodes College. This event is free and open to the public.
  • Women Effecting Change: Faces of Memphis Feminism, February 21, 7pm in Blount Auditorium, Buckman Hall at Rhodes College. This event is free and open to the public.
  • McCoy Theatre Presents “Tongue of a Bird” by Ellen McLaughlin, directed by Rhodes alumnus Wes Meador ’00, February 17, 18, 23, 24, 25, 26, 7:30pm

Maryville College

The college is pleased to announce senior instructor in English Darcy Munson Meijer has received a Fulbright Scholar grant. She will be living and teaching in Vietnam until her return to Maryville College in August 2006 where she will lecture and demonstrate communicative teaching techniques for English teachers at Ho Chi Minh City Open University.

A 5-day summer youth retreat for high school students involved in church leadership, “Summer Youth Get-A-Way”, has been set for June 4- 8, 2006. Each year the college hosts students for this 5-day program. Focusing on issues of faith, leadership and vocation this event is open to rising 10th, 11th and 12th graders. The program is funded through a grant from the Lilly Endowment. Centre College

In October the college dedicated The College Centre, the recently opened $22 million state-of-the-art academic and athletic/recreation complex. Instead of a traditional ribbon cutting ceremony at the dedication, College officials brought together ribbons at the arch between Crounse Hall and Sutcliffe Hall to unite the two buildings that represent the life of the mind and body. The College Centre is supported by gifts made to the Capital Improvements Fund, a $15 million quasiendowment fund that is part of the Campaign for A More Perfect Centre.

Columbia Seminary

A colloquium will be held April 17-19, celebrating Shirley C. Guthrie, professor emeritus of systematic theology, who died in October 2004. Planning for this event will be inspired by his teaching ministry, which he devoted to making Reformed Theology accessible to all the church. Presenters include Daniel Migliore, Amy Plantinga Pauw and George Stroup. For more information go to www.ctsnet.edu.

Louisville Seminary

March 12-15 will be the dates for Church Leadership for the 21st Century: Festival of Theology and Reunion. Presenters for this event include Frank Thomas, Robert Franklin, James Hudnut-Beumler and Barbara Z. Barnes. There will be dinner with the moderator, Rick Ufford-Chase, on March 14 as a part of the Festival. For more information go to www.lpts.edu/Festival&Reunion.
