General Assembly Approaches

by Terry Newland

Have you ever seen a General Assembly? We talk about the General Assembly all the time, but have you ever seen one up close? Well, have I got a deal for you! The 217th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA) will convene on June 15th in Birmingham, AL. What an opportunity: not only can you see it, you can help make it happen.

GA's COLACheck out the website of this Assembly’s Committee on Local Arrangements (COLA), www.presbycola.org . It tells the story of a great opportunity for Presbyterians. About 25% of the volunteers needed to help host the Assembly have signed on. We need you to join that group! You can volunteer on line at the COLA website or call (205) 825-5317. There’s something for every interest and talent.

Thousands of Presbyterians from all over the world are coming to Birmingham and we want to show them hospitality like they’ve never seen before. Imagine the difference you can make in the experience of these sisters and brothers as they spend 8 days immersed in the important work of our church.

The theme for the 217th General Assembly is “So great a cloud of witnesses” Hebrews 12:1-2. Go to the website and find a way to become such a witness yourself.

The Peace of Christ be with you.
