“Half for the
Hungry”
Long time runner and Presbyterian
elder Jim Dickson wanted to do
something to help feed the hungry.
His idea? Do something for those
in need while doing something to
help oneself. With that was born
“Half for the Hungry”. Participants
register for the Music City Half
Marathon, train together and then
give a donation equal to their
registration fee. The donation goes
toward the Wednesday luncheon
program which feeds the homeless
at the Downtown Presbyterian
Church. On the night before race
day, April 28, the group of twentyfive
runners and walkers will gather
for a pre-race pasta dinner where
they will present a check to the
pastor of DPC, Ken Locke. Jim
Dickson says, “most of the
participants are people who never
dreamed they could go out and
run/walk 13.1 miles, but they do!”
And they are more fit and the
hungry are fed because of it.
