College and Seminary News

Centre College

Two hundred and sixty four seniors received degrees at the 183rd commencement ceremonies on May 21st. This was Centre’s largest graduating class ever. Vanderbilt University Chancellor Gordon Gee gave the address. Centre College is in Danville, Kentucky.

Maryville College

More than 50 students were honored at the annual academic awards ceremony on April 22. Recipients of awards included Sean Broussard, Bobby Browning, Sarah Moore, Amber Nestor-Henderson and Emily Swicegood who received the 2006 West Chevrolet Academic Award. This mathematics award is worth $500 for each student.

The Lady Scots soccer team is the winner of the Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award presented annually by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. This award is given to teams with one to five cautions and no send-offs on the season. The Lady Scots finished the season with a record of 15-4-1. Maryville College is in Maryville, Tennessee

King College

New chapel banners were dedicated in January. The banners reflect King’s core values. The three on the east wall are read from bottom to top: “serve others,” “love others” and “be prepared.” They were inspired by I Peter 3:15, I John 3:19 and I Peter 4:10. The banners on the west wall, inspired by Romans 12:1, I Thessalonians 5:23 and I Peter 1:5, read “Be Transformed,” “Be Sanctified,” and “Add Virtue.” Across the back, hanging from the balcony, the final banner reads, “Love the Lord, you God, with all your heart, soul and mind, and your neighbor as yourself.” King College is located in Bristol, Tennessee.

Columbia Theological Seminary

The annual Summer Scholars Week will be “Seeing” Worship Anew: Creating and Using Visual Art in Worship. Held the week of July 24-27, it will feature keynote presenter Catherine Kapikian, a liturgical artist. She will explore visual arts in the Christian West, the vocabulary of the visual, the creative process and participatory aesthetics. For more information go online to www.ctsnet.edu. Louisville Theological Seminary

The Board of Trustees unanimously elected Rev. Debra Mumford to serve on the faculty as Assistant Professor of Preaching and Worship. Mumford is completing her doctoral studies in homiletics at the Graduate Theological Union (GTU) in Berkeley, California. She will begin her service at the seminary in June of 2007. Louisville Seminary is located in Louisville, Kentucky.
