Ice Cream Crankin' August 6

Benefits Martha O'Bryan Center
Purity's Miss Martha's Ice Cream Crankin' is returning to the grounds of First Presbyterian Church, 4815 Franklin Pike in Nashville, for the 21st edition of all the homemade ice cream you can eat for just one price on Sunday afternoon August 6.
The benefit for the Martha O'Bryan Center, an official mission of the Presbytery of Middle Tennessee, is like an old fashioned Sunday Social, said Holly Sharp, volunteer chair of Nashville's favorite summertime event.
From 3 to 5 p.m., ice cream lovers can sample dozens of flavors — from plain old vanilla (the nation's favorite) to gourmet concoctions cranked by hundreds of volunteers.
One of the favorite events is the stacking contest when ministers see how many scoops of ice cream they can get on a cone before they start to fall. The one who survives some jostling and has the most scoops in the appropriated time wins the right to keep the framed photo of ice cream until the next Crankin'.
The Best of Show of the Ice Cream Crankin' Contest selected by celebrity judges will be produced by Purity as one of its new flavors for 2007 and sold locally.
Other events include Purity Ice Cream Olympics with contests for children and a variety of entertainment.
Tickets are $8 per person and will be on sale at Presbyterian churches as well as specially designed T-shirts. Tickets, t-shirts, fans and water will also be available for purchase on site.
Gates and freezers opening for sampling at 3 p.m.
