Belhaven College

Best Christian Workplaces Institute recognized Belhaven as a Best Christian Places to Work finalist of 2006. More than 10,600 employees in 93 organizations across the United States helped identify great workplaces with a Christian mission and /or values. The top 40 survey finalists were published in the April issue of Christianity Today magazine.

Maryville College

The 2006 Appalachian Lecture Series features three authors. The first lecture is on September 12 th. Poet Diane Gilliam Fisher will be the speaker, reading from her collection entitled Kettle Bottom. Author Jo Carson will present the second lecture on October 10. Her latest book is Liars, Thieves and Other Sinners on the Bench. The series will conclude on November 14 when noted author Madison Smartt Bell will present a fiction reading about southern places entitled, "Somewhere South."

Pikeville College

Dr. John A. Strosnider, dean of the School of Osteopathic Medicine , has been installed at the American Osteopathic Association president for 2006-2007. His theme during his tenure as president is "Back to Basics." Dr. Strosnider has been a member of the AOA since 1971 and has served on the Board of Trustees since 1992.

Rhodes College

Leigh Bonner, a 2006 graduate of Rhodes College, is the new recipient of the Presbyterian Mission Award supporting a year of service in Ghana . The funds for this award come from individual and church donations to the Rhodes Chaplain's Office to support global missions of the PC(USA). Bonner expects to teach introduction to music or computers at the Ridge Church School in Accra.
