Dr. George Perkins receives PHEWA award
A member of Anchorage Presbyterian Church in Louisville, KY, Dr. George Perkins received the Margaret A. Fuad Award at the July meeting of Mid-Kentucky Presbytery. The award honors a lay person who, as a volunteer or activist, is instrumental in getting his or her church and community involved in issues related to drug and alcohol abuse through education, awareness or treatment. The Presbyterian Health Education and Welfare Association (PHEWA) gives this award. Nominated by the Rev. Dee Wade, pastor of the Anchorage church, Dr. Perkins founded the Wellness Institute, which led to the Intervention Resource Center. Both of these organizations work at educating about the economic and emotional costs of alcohol and drug abuse and promote the effectiveness of intervention. |
