Liberty Hill Presbyterian Church, nestled in a hill in the fork of Liberty Hill and Round Top Road approximately 4 1/2 miles south of Alexandria, TN, has been serving Christ through its members and congregation since 1890. The past two years have been especially fruitful ones for the small 47 member Church. We have welcomed Pastor Tim Diffenderfer, wife Tracy, and children, Ashley and TJ. Brother Tim's passion for serving the Lord, and his enthusiasm for doing so, along with his down-to-earth personality and the wonderful support of his family, have brought new life and energy here. We have added six new members and have several newcomers who have become regular worshippers. A new outdoor pavilion was built in 2005, along with the addition of a guard rail along the creek bank, and the parking lot was paved. During the late fall of 2006, a 26 x 30 Fellowship Hall, which will also serve as an additional Sunday School classroom, was added to the Church. A 14 x 26 covered drive-through, for easier access for the elderly, physically challenged or during inclement weather, was also added. Our Dedication Service was held Sunday, February 4, 2007. A new digital piano was the Church's most recent purchase.
The Church has continued to faithfully support the Heifer Project, having begun its support of that mission many years ago with an initial donation of an ark of animals. Other Presbytery supported projects have included donations to the Hurricane Charley Liberty Hill Presbyterian Church victims in Florida and North Carolina, and to the Tsunami victims. During the aftermath of the more recent Hurricane Katrina, two of our elders, along with a group of PSF students from Middle Tennessee State University, traveled to Mississippi to help with recovery work there. The Church has made several donations in support of the Presbyterian Student Fellowship on the campus of MTSU Upon request, the Church contributes to the college education of children and grandchildren of church members. The Church, monthly, receives an outreach offering to aid local families in need and frequently receives donations of canned foods for the local food bank. The Church participates in Project Joy, in which Christmas gift boxes for infants and children, are sent to a rural Appalachian Community in Kentucky along with coats, blankets, and other clothing. For many years, a few weeks before Christmas, a special monetary donation has been taken for the Nashville Rescue Mission. The support for that ministry has been expanded to include more donations throughout the year. The Church has adopted a 4 1/2 mile section of Liberty Hill Road and, several times a year, sponsors a road clean-up followed by a cookout to which the entire community is invited. With the new Fellowship Hall available, the Church plans to have programs and activities once a month to encourage more community involvement Homecoming at the Church is held the second Sunday in June, with an average of 110 to 120 attending. A three day Revival begins that evening. Liberty Hill Presbyterian Church serves a small rural community where generations of faithful members continue to spread the gospel and show Christ's love, in service to others, through the Church's many missions. |
