Dickson, TN, First celebrates 100 years |
|
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the First Presbyterian Church of Dickson, TN. Formed in 1907 out of the breakup of the merger between the UPUSA and the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, the church lost property and many members at its formation. The remaining members formed the new congregation. By 1964 the membership had fallen to 14 and the Presbytery of Nashville voted to close the church. The 14 members did not accept this decision. A weekend celebration was held which included an evening of memories, festive worship on Sunday morning and dinner on the grounds. During the celebration, former pastors gave greetings; and resolutions from the General Assembly of the State of Tennessee and the City Council of Dickson were presented. At the 100-year mark, First Dickson has an active membership of 170 with 60 youth in attendance. |
