Good Samaritans Have Not Entirely Disappeared
If anybody is giving out a Good Samaritan Award these days, we would like to nominate Paula Thomas, program secretary for Middle Tennessee Presbytery. Seen here providing jumper cables from her car to Andrew Layton’s car recently, Paula is always quick to respond to a need and quicker than anybody to see the need in the first place. From her vantage point near the entrance to the Presbyterian Center in Franklin, Tennessee (which houses Middle Tennessee Presbytery, the Synod of Living Waters and the Presbyterian Foundation), Paula can spot travelers in trouble on the street or in the parking lot. Sometimes it’s a glass of ice water on a hot day while a mechanic is being called and sometimes she is more proactive in helping with the actual problem. Last week she brought in a big basket of red ripe tomatoes from the Thomas garden in Columbia and they were there for all to share. She’s a friendly and helpful presence on the telephone and at the reception desk, and at First Presbyterian Church in Columbia, Tennessee, where her husband Steve is associate pastor.
