Plans Announced for
Synod Annual Meeting

Commissioners and visitors will
gather in Franklin September 24-25

Synod's Executive/Transition Committee met at the Synod office August 8 and 9 to finalize plans for the annual meeting, which is to be held this year at First Presbyterian Church in Franklin, Tennessee.

The meeting will begin with worship at 1:00 p.m. on September 24, preceded by box lunches provided in the registration area of the fellowship hall. The worship times for the meeting are being planned by Moderator Arthur Lodge. Dr. Laura Mendenhall president of Columbia Theological Seminary, will preach the sermon.

The Moderator-elect Elder Mamie Jones of First Presbyterian Church in Huntsville, Alabama, will be installed and the nominating committee will present names for other offices, including a vice moderator and a stated clerk. Former Stated Clerk Al Freundt will be honored.

New commissioners will be recognized during the meeting. The twenty-four commissioners are assigned to the three committees of the Synod: Communications, Presbytery Ministry Partnerships, and Living Waters for the World.

A 2002 budget recommendation will be included in the report of the Executive/Transition Committee. The expenditures will reflect program and mission priorities and commissioners will be voting on more than just a bottom line figure when they adopt the budget.

The synod committees will meet at the end of the afternoon session and reports from each committee will be heard by the Synod.

Following a six o'clock dinner at the church, a musical program will be presented.

Presentations from mission program grant recipients and the agencies and institutions of the Synod will be heard in both the Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning plenary sessions.
